I’m
–learning–
to luv antlers.
They’re growing on me.
I’m about 85% on board—
I still find them a bit
“creepy- and sad.”
–
I suppose that makes it all the funnier that I have some in the kitchen, huh?
I actually like them hanging in this vignette, but I DON’T like the finishes of the traditional mounting.
After giving some thought to this dilemma,
look what I did!
–
Better, right?
Out with the traditional!
I pondered a blue toile or grainsack, but gingham looked best in the end.
And I trimmed the edges with a small delicate lace trim!
its ok but and my own opinion , its meant to be rustic as i is and that is my humble opinion — sometimes we need to give some respect to those of us that hunters in the house and not take over everything ,, a home is 2 people hmmm

wow this posting after I read it did not post correctly we have 2 people in the house if we have antlers and the respect for the other person is not hanging lace or plaids .. it is meant to be rustic aka primitive as women sometimes we need to understand a house is a home of 2 and yes that is my opinion ! I do furniture and take in what my husband thinks as guess what he lives here too

Where I can appreciate your take on this Sherry, I disagree with you whole heartedly. I certainly had no intention of upsetting/offending you or anyone else- truly sorry. BUT-
1st- there is no “man” in this household to offend with the gingham and lace, or have to check in with. This is my mother’s home, and SHE likes it!
2nd- the hunter couldn’t possibly feel disrespected by my changes since he didn’t even see fit to KEEP his trophy. And-
Thirdly- and probably more to the point…Rustic? I’m a REpurposer! I alter, modify, and REbuild things all the time- why should this alteration be exempt?
ps- my mom “liked” this comment (wasn’t me!)

I love it, Catherine! The gingham makes me giggle. 😀
I have a set of antlers, too (begged them from my b-i-l), but haven’t done anything with them yet. The skull part on mine has molting fur and it grosses me out. I want to take the antlers completely off the little bit of skull, but not sure how. I’ve hammered and banged, and it just isn’t letting loose.

Sheila, can you just talk a saw to it? You will then have the issue of having to place them differently on your display board, but…

Thanks Sheila! It’s making me giggle too! Couldn’t you just cover over the fur on yours- albeit it will be a little fluffy unless you pull it tight! Or how about shaving the fur down first? : D

I love the little gingham underpanties on the antlers!! That is what I thought of when I first glanced at it. I love the gingham and if the two ladies that live in your home love it, then…there isn’t a hunter that hunted it and killed it and brought it home to you, so I completely approve. I wish I had a pair now. (Of antlers, that is.). ; )

I’m with you! 🙂 I used to actually make my husband keep his in the garage… But now that I’ve taken and transform them with paint and fabric they have started to become a nice piece of wall art instead of a creepy one 🙂 yours look great! 🙂 I love what you did with them! I hope you have a great day!
Smiles!

OK… So I just read the other comments! I am shocked! I just can’t believe that someone who does what we do and says that there are two people in the house would consider that you hadn’t discussed it with others before you did It! Wow! I love what you have done with these and I don’t think it’s a disrespect at all. At least they’re being enjoyed now rather than being discarded into a trash heap or otherwise! That is the true disrespect! You’ve given them some beauty again! Well done 🙂

Love the way you did the antlers. I have some from my brother and have never done anything with them. Now I plan to do something like you did to display them. Thank you for the inspiration.
