Well, the NEW display cabinet is IN! (yay!)
The radio cabinet is OUT.
It’s loaded and ready for delivery to its new home tomorrow morning.
It’s great to see things getting sold, but—just as I was finishing setting up my new display,
Someone asked “how much?” —With great interest!
Oh, maaan. That could have been gREAt, but—I sort of need it right now since I don’t have the time to build another immediately.
BUT I COULD BUILD HER SOMETHING CUSTOM, after Christmas!!
Boy, I really have to re-address this corner!
Anyway, here are some of the details of my new cabinet!
–Of course it all started with that great chair bottom!
–If you recognize the applique, you’re good! It’s the extra one I ordered for the upper window frieze boards in a guest bedroom of my mom’s house.
–The crown molding–ha ha–is actually picture frame molding! You have to look at some of those large vintage picture frames with a different eye!
I added a rail underneath the top– 1. to “thicken” the visual and give it more weight, and, 2. it’s now prepped for a door and lock I will add after Christmas! My mother would really like to add some very valuable Wizard of Oz books and memorabilia left to her from my uncle’s VAST collection.
On a side note—My beloved late uncle is the FREDDY of Freddy & Petunia. And he was the secretary to the Oz club (for as long as I can remember), and knew many of the actors from that much-loved movie–even corresponding with them over many years! Their letters and other important documents have been donated to Syracuse University.
Here’s the updated visual of my current space—from both directions! Changes abound!
I feel so lucky for how well things have been going so far!

I’m sharing this project with these FABulous linky parties!
You’ll have trouble keeping that display cabinet. It really is pretty! Merry Christmas.

It looks gorgeous! I can’t believe that is the base of a chair in that bookshelf. Genius!
I love the story about your late Uncle Freddy. Wizard of Oz is one of my most favorite movies, and I read all the books as a child. Mark is from Syracuse and went to Law School there. Did your uncle go to Syracuse? Small world, just keeps getting smaller.

I love your display cabinet…………….gorgeous………..fabulous. Do you know if I can get Lowe’s or Home Depot to miter corners if I can find something like yours for a real nominal price. I can’t do and my husband does not have the equipment. Thanks and have a great Holiday Season…………Barbara

I don’t know if any of the big box stores have saws that will cut miters, I’ve never asked–but I’m guessing not, sorry.
I think your best bet is to build a good relationship with a good “handy man” in your community. This will be someone to help you–work with you–teach you first-hand!
Then as you learn and grow in comfort–start buying tools! It’s addicting!

I so love this project. Genius! Sharing at my party this afternoon. Oh yes, and I feel like a dweeb. Of course I remembered Frank Oz was FROM Syracuse. Mark likes to remind me often of all the famous people that hailed from this upstate college town. Happy New Year my friend!
