Quite a while back, I found this frame at the flea market.
**I have “found” many—this is just one more of my “collections.” ; D
After playing around with paint, I built a box for it. Think “shadow box.”
I “upholstered” that box with heavy linen. Applied a combination of wooden pegs and teensy cup hooks. Finally, I connected the frame to the box with a piano hinge.
I knew at some point I would come back to it–I just didn’t have the right print or picture to put in it yet, patience. . .
So- a while back I found this print at St Vinnie’s for a dollar.
I cut it down, and mounted it to ¼” plywood I cut to fit the frame opening.
I cut ½-round and flat stock for 2 matching “frames,” and sandwiched 3/8″ brass chicken wire between the two–then applied it to the face of the mounted print.
I painted and waxed the wood and outer print area–
and slipped it into the frame.
The reason for the two layered “frame” and chicken wire? To create “space” for the earrings to be hung on the face!
My new jewelry “box!”

—Yes, I boo-booed, there’s a gap at the top. I’ll figure something out! Cat

I didn’t notice the boo boo until you pointed it out! This is really cool. I love original ideas for jewelery holders, I think this one wins.

Thanks, but NOT original.
A friend has this, with a mirrored face–expensive from on-line.
I just ran with the idea–preferring a vintage frame and fabric interior!

What a great idea! I’ve seen the chicken wire frames used for jewelry before, but the shadow box part is genius!

What a great looking jewelry “box”. The frame is lovely but adding that print really makes it super special. Nice work.

Hi Cat!
This really turned out nice and It will be very helpful having your pretties all organized. I am in the process of one made out of a long mirror, all that is left is to stain the box and add the hangers.
It looks great! Gap… what gap?

I love what you did. It may not be “orginal” but I haven’t seen a jewelry box behind a earring holder like yours. With the extra vintage picture it is really beautiful. I didn’t notice the boo boo either. Katharine

Is the frame flat against the wall? Or did you have to cut a hole in the wall? or is the Frame just really thick?

It’s actually 3 pieces/layers!
A shadow box–a frame–and the print on 1/4″ plywood with the brass wire-overlay.
Look at my current post showing the separate parts!
