It was one very LABORious weekend, and it hasn’t quite come to an end yet. Suffice it to say, I had a hundred projects going on at once (as usual) !
Monday, I did manage to steal some early morning quiet time and vegged in front of the TV watching a string of “Junk Gypsies” that were looong backed up on the DVR!
And–O M G–what did I see, but
a project with a globe–being turned into a lamp shade! Ha ha ha!
I love the purple globe, can’t say I’ve ever seen one before! And I love the idea of making it a hanging light, but—
I was watching with great alarm to see her using a power tool with bulky gloves on! That’s just a recipe for disaster! Please, don’t EVer do that! If the blade of a saw would catch the glove, it would drag it right in faster than you could ever react. Same with a drill, or a belt-styled sander! Yikes!
Safety-safety-SAFEty!
It is such an easy project, and I also started out with a jig saw—but I found it was pretty rough on the globe and immediately switched to an oscillating saw! It cut much cleaner too!
I hope you’ll try this! (sans gloves–) I was also thinking it would be fun to put a globe on one of those lightening rods in the garden (in lieu of the usual armillary sphere).

OK I am totally going to have to try this! I have a guest room I plan on making into a “travel theme” and this would be perfect!
Found you through “Try This Try That”!

Thank you for the information on how you cut the globe open! I don’t have that type of saw, but am wondering if maybe a Dremel tool would work? I’ll have to get a couple of old globes and maybe practice on one of them. Thanks again!
I believe Dremmel does have a little cutter!
But, FYI–Harbor Freight has an off brand for cheap and it’s a great tool to have!
