This is my niece and her little family.
Everyone say “cheese!” –Guys–?? Over here–
This is their [little] 1900 house.
(We learned it used to have an old-fashioned covered porch–awww)
I built them a flower box, and found shutters at the ReStore–
–and designed a custom deck for them. Something with great function. But more importantly, great curb-appeal because it has to be at the front of the house. (They have the tiniest back yard). –this is the initial sketch.
1st, we had to get rid of the steps. I put them on Craig’s list—
“FREE for the taking, but YOU have to haul them!”
I was promptly inundated with emails–yay! I found them a taker and a back up–just in case. But some of the emails—??
“How much do they weigh?” Seriously?? “Would you load them for me?” Sure lady, but–only for YOU, will you have room in your trunk? One guy emailed about 10 days after the ad was removed to inform me HE WOULD TAKE THEM. –Sure, dude–.
And thanks to Craig’s list, I was able to strike a deal with someone~ that he could HAVE the broken, right railing in trade for altering the good, left side for us. So we’ll re-use what we already have, without any extra costs–!!
The Batman boys came to help dig post holes! Weren’t we so lucky!
Here’s how it’s been going, and where we’re at now—
I’m [trying] to take today off—we’ll see . . . .
Brian says he “owes me a spa day!” Thanks, but, maybe I need therapy—
And btw– the bruised leg belongs to Brian, who fell through the stair joists. For once, I am in the clear. ; D
